My finished tree... my first adult tree. One day all my dated ornaments will make their debuts, but this year I wanted more simple and less clean up! :)

This is as festive as my front door can it! We aren't allowed to put anything on our doors... imagine I have a red bow right in the middle! :)

Another reason...

After having a couple days off of work, I was welcomed back with two disgustingly busy and stressful days at work. I felt like I was running around the whole twelve hours back and forth between my four rooms, trying to stay compassionate and friendly with my patients (one in particular who was so obsessed with her bowel functions), pass my medications, stay on top of pain medications, chart and keep the doctors informed. And on top of all that think critically! Physically I was exhausted and mentally ready for a mini-breakdown.
During one of my many medication passes I walked into my favorite patients room. I had taken care of this cute spunky old lady once sometime in November and she came with a slightly overbearing daughter and granddaughter. Sometimes these types of families can be exhausting or annoying, but that day I had determined to bond and try to make my day with them a great experience, and it was! I had run into the daughter all around the hospital and gotten updates along the way. One this particular day, she had almost been in the hospital for a whole month! I walked in and said, "I saved the best for last!" We giggled and chatted while I gave her medications and as I was about to walk out the daughter said, "Melissa, we have something for you!" She handed me this beautiful ornament and gift card, and said "Thank you for all you've done."

The little card read,
"Melissa, thank you for the kindness and attention you have shown our Mother and Grandmother."
Made my little heart smile brighter that day...

Another reason why I love being an nurse.

Tonight I realized that on December 1st, I started my 7th month on day shift!
Which means, I survived my goal of surviving 6 months on day shift!
Woohoo...
but what I also realized that in 4 more months,
I will been doing nursing for t-w-o years! Wow.
